As previously mentioned, I am excited to share excerpts from my upcoming book. As already shared with you, I’m in the process of writing a book that deep-dives into the world of go-to-market (GTM) strategy, blending it with personal experiences and passions that have shaped my career. I will also explore how AI is impacting all of us in sales, marketing, sales enablement, operation, and finance, from insights to planning, pitching and execution. This book will give you a new and fresh perspective on building strong GTM plans, leveraging a consumer and partner-centric approach, and asking the right questions to create real differentiation and impactful storytelling. You will find below a new excerpt focusing on the structure and what you can expect. Feel free to share your thoughts on this and open a conversation with me for collaboration. My calendar shared below is fully opened for this purpose.
Please find the excerpt below.
As I progressed from white to yellow belt in karate, I learned that mastering the fundamentals is crucial. The same principle applies to Go-To-Market (GTM) strategies, especially in the era of AI. Let me share a personal story that illustrates this point and opened my eyes to the transformative power of AI in unexpected places.
The High-Tech Golf Lesson in Palm Beach
During a weekend at Palm Beach, Florida, I found myself with an unexpected free afternoon. As an avid golfer and karate enthusiast, I’m always looking for ways to improve my skills in both disciplines. The pursuit of perfection in the golf swing, much like the quest for the perfect karate technique, has always fascinated me. Both require a harmonious blend of precision, power, and mental focus.
Eager to make the most of my time in this golfing paradise, I decided to visit the local PGA Tour Superstore for a quick lesson. As I entered the store, the smell of fresh leather golf gloves and the sight of gleaming clubs reminded me of the dojo – a place of learning and self-improvement.

I was greeted by Sarah, a professional instructor with a warm smile and a keen eye. She invited me to step into a high-tech training bay that looked more like a NASA control room than a golf practice area. The walls were lined with screens displaying an array of data points and video feeds. In the center stood a golf simulator that seemed to have more computing power than the first spacecraft to land on the moon.
As we began the lesson, Sarah introduced me to the advanced AI-powered system they were using – the Foresight Sports GCQuad. This wasn’t just any golf training tool; it was a marvel of modern technology. Four high-speed cameras captured every nuance of my swing in real-time, while sophisticated software analyzed the data in milliseconds.
With each swing, the system captured an astounding amount of information:
- Club head speed and angle at impact
- Ball spin rate and launch angle
- Precise measurements of my body positioning throughout the swing
- Even the pressure distribution on my feet as I shifted my weight
What amazed me most was how the AI system integrated all this data to provide instant, personalized feedback. It was like having a team of expert analysts watching every swing, providing insights that even the most experienced human eye might miss.
Sarah, armed with this wealth of information, could make precise, personalized corrections to my technique. She showed me how a slight adjustment in my grip pressure – something I hadn’t even noticed – could significantly impact my ball flight. The AI system even suggested specific drills tailored to my swing characteristics, creating a truly customized training program.
As the lesson progressed, I couldn’t help but draw parallels to my karate training. In both disciplines, the pursuit of perfection is endless. Just as a karateka refines their kata through countless repetitions, a golfer hones their swing through tireless practice. But now, with AI as a training partner, the path to improvement seemed clearer and more efficient than ever before.
After the lesson, curiosity got the better of me. I asked Sarah about the technology and its impact on golf instruction. She smiled, her eyes lighting up with enthusiasm. “This technology is revolutionizing how we teach and learn golf,” she explained. “It allows us to see things we never could before, and to tailor our instruction to each individual in ways that were impossible just a few years ago.”
She went on to describe how AI was being used not just in training, but in club fitting, course management, and even in designing new golf equipment. It was a revelation – AI wasn’t just for the boardroom or the tech industry; it was transforming even traditional sports and practices.
As I left the store, my mind was buzzing with possibilities. If AI could have such a profound impact on something as established as golf instruction, what could it do for Go-To-Market strategies? How could we harness this technology to gain deeper insights into our markets, to tailor our approaches with the same precision as my newly improved golf swing?
AI: The New Foundation of GTM
This experience made me reflect on how AI is reshaping the fundamentals of GTM strategies. Just as the golf instructor used AI to enhance her teaching, businesses can leverage AI to master the basics of GTM:
Market Research: AI-powered tools can analyze vast amounts of data to identify market trends, customer preferences, and competitive landscapes with unprecedented accuracy. Imagine being able to predict market shifts with the same precision as predicting a golf ball’s flight path.
Customer Segmentation: Machine learning algorithms can segment customers based on complex behavioral patterns, allowing for hyper-personalized marketing strategies. Like tailoring a golf training program to an individual’s swing, we can now tailor our GTM approaches to specific customer segments with remarkable precision.
Product Development: AI can process customer feedback and market data to guide product improvements and innovations, ensuring that offerings align with market needs. This is akin to using swing data to design golf clubs that perfectly match a player’s style.
Pricing Strategies: Dynamic pricing models powered by AI can optimize pricing in real-time based on market conditions, competitor actions, and customer behavior. It’s like having a caddie who can read the green and suggest the perfect club for every shot.
The Human Touch in the Age of AI
However, as I learned in both the dojo and on the golf course, AI is a tool, not a replacement for human expertise. Sarah’s years of experience and intuition were still crucial in interpreting and applying the AI’s suggestions. Similarly, in GTM, AI should enhance, not replace, human creativity and strategic thinking.
The key is to find the right balance – to use AI as a powerful ally that amplifies our human capabilities. In GTM, this means using AI to gather and analyze data, identify patterns, and suggest strategies, but relying on human judgment to make the final decisions and add the creative spark that truly differentiates a brand.
Embracing the AI-Enhanced GTM Journey
As we progress on our GTM journey, we must approach AI with the same openness and humility as a yellow belt in karate or a golfer striving for the perfect swing. We must be willing to learn, adapt, and integrate these new tools into our existing knowledge base.
Remember, just as in karate and golf, mastering the fundamentals of GTM with AI is not about quick wins. It’s about building a solid foundation for long-term success. It’s about continuous learning, constant refinement, and the relentless pursuit of excellence.
As we continue our journey through the belts of GTM mastery, keep this lesson in mind: AI is not just changing the game; it’s redefining how we play it. It’s offering us new ways to understand our markets, connect with our customers, and drive our businesses forward.
In the chapters that follow, we’ll explore how to apply these AI-enhanced fundamentals to various aspects of GTM strategy. We’ll learn how to harness the power of AI while maintaining the human touch that is essential to truly connecting with our customers.
So, let’s step onto this new playing field with the curiosity of a beginner and the determination of a master. The AI revolution in GTM is here, and it’s up to us to swing for success.
